Three datacenters with 300 devices
Impact
Customer savings of $1.5M for reduced downtime
Our customer had acquired another pharmaceutical company and needed to relocate three datacenters from the acquired organization into their own existing facilities. To separate production equipment from disaster recovery (DR) assets, each datacenter relocation required a multi-phase approach. With downtime costing the customer $100,000 per hour in lost revenue, minimizing interruptions was critical.
Disparate Locations
The longest route between sites covered ~ 2000 miles or 30 hours of normal travel time. The customer required all relocations to be completed within 15 hours or less.
Fastest Transportation
To minimize downtime on critical moves, we secured the fastest possible transportation, chartering two Boeing jets (a 737 and a 727) to transport the equipment.
Key Preparation
The acquired company did not have records on equipment cabling. Completing a comprehensive cable mapping for each datacenter was key for this project.
Approach
MultiTek conducted thorough cable mapping at each datacenter in preparation for the relocation. We worked closely with key IT stakeholders to confirm mapping accuracy and establish a detailed cabling plan.
With tight timelines, we chartered a private plane for two routes, ensuring HIPAA-compliant Chain of Custody by assigning staff to oversee the equipment at every transit stage.
To minimize downtime, we arranged expedited security and customs clearance, with unloading crews and ground transportation ready to move assets swiftly upon arrival. Standby teams at each destination reinstalled the equipment immediately to ensure seamless transitions.
MultiTek also coordinated and contracted with the right OEM recertification teams to ensure that the warranty status of HP, IBM & Dell EMC equipment was maintained.
Outcome
MultiTek met the customer's timeline for every move and even completed several relocations ahead of schedule. After project completion, the customer expressed their satisfaction, praising the quality of our team's work throughout each phase.
